Budget 2011 changes:
The Government are halving the up to $20 per week ($1043 pa) matching government contribution tax credit of $1 to 50c or up to $521 for the year ending 30 June 2012 and beyond.
From 1 April 2013 the minimum employee and employer contribution will rise from 2% to 3%.
From 1 April 2012 all employer contributions will be subject to Employer Superannuation Contribution Tax.

BENEFITS:
If you are under 65, the government gives you:
$1,000 kickstart
- if you are over 18 your contributions will be matched by a tax credit of up to $20 per week. ($10 for year ending 30 June 2012),
- Employees can choose to contribute 2%, 4% or 8%. The default rate is 2%. (3% from 1 April 2013).
- from 1 April 2009, all employees contributions also get a minimum matching employer contribution of 2% (3% from 1 April 2013),
- After three years of saving, some savers that are first home buyers will be eligible for a housing deposit subsidy of $1,000 per year of saving, up to $5,000 in total.
Since 1 April 2009, existing employee members may choose to reduce contributions to 2%. To do this complete this form (KS2) and pass it to your employer.
In late 2009, new PIE and PIR rules were announced - see KiwiSaver and Tax. New PIR rates applied from 1 Oct 2010.
The government also plans to remove the obstacles in transferring savings to and from Australia. See 2010 Update

We will advise IRD and your existing funds and new contributions including government and employers, will be automatically forwarded to your new scheme. Just follow the process described above.
